Captain Trevor Gulley RN

Captain Trevor Gulley joined the Royal Navy in 1982 after completing a Naval Architect Technician Apprenticeship at Devonport Royal Dockyard. On completion of initial training at Britannia Royal Naval College and general fleet training in HM Ship’s LEDBURY, BROCKLESBY and GLAMORGAN, he completed an engineering degree at the Royal Naval Engineering College (RNEC), Plymouth, graduating in 1985. Following initial specialist training as a Marine Engineer, he served as the Deputy Marine Engineer Officer in HM Ship’s GLASGOW and SHEFFIELD. He returned to the RNEC to complete a MSc in Electrical Marine Engineering and a subsequent position in the Ministry of Defence at Bath (Director General Marine Engineering) as a project officer responsible for future machinery control and surveillance systems and procedural trainers.
Promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 1993, he served as the Marine Engineer Officer (MEO) in HMS RICHMOND prior to undertaking an appointment with Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) at Devonport where he conducted marine engineering training in an array of Royal Navy and broader European naval ships.
Promoted to Commander in 1998, he was appointed as the Naval Assistant to the Chief Executive of the Ship’s Support Agency at Bath and served as the Senior Naval Officer and MEO in HM Ship’s INVINCIBLE and BULWARK. Following a short appointment to Commander in Chief Fleet HQ, he completed a 30 month period as the Training Commander at HMS RALEIGH, the Royal Navy’s new entry training establishment. He returned to FOST as the Staff Marine Engineer Officer in September 2006 before attending the NATO Defence College in Rome and fulfilling a NATO staff officer role at the Joint Force Command HQ Naples, Italy. Following a short appointment as the Deputy Team Leader of the Invigorating Engineering Support and Training Team at Abbey Wood, Bristol, he assumed Command of DSMarE on 25 January 2011.
A Cornishman, he lives in his native town of Torpoint with his Brazilian wife Priscilla. He enjoys soccer (reduced to a spectator role these days), fine dining and motoring and retains an ambition to reinvigorate his surfing, wind surfing and musical prowess.
